Game of Thrones: Davos confronts Melisandre

Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 10 The Winds of Winter

At Winterfell, as Jon and Melisandre are talking, Davos enters and confronts her with the burned stag figurine. Melisandre admits burning Shireen alive, and Davos then requests permission from Jon to punish Melisandre for her crimes but the red priestess counters that she can be useful in the coming war against the dead. Jon instead exiles Melisandre from the North, with both Davos and him threatening to execute her if she ever returns to the North again.

JON: What is that?
DAVOS: Tell him. Tell him who it belonged to.
MELISANDRE: The Princess Shireen.
DAVOS: Tell him what you did to her. Tell him!
MELISANDRE: We burned her at the stake.
DAVOS: Why?
MELISANDRE: The army was trapped. The horses were dying. It was the only way.
DAVOS: You burned a little girl alive!
MELISANDRE: I only do what my Lord commands.
DAVOS: If he commands you to burn children, your Lord is evil.
MELISANDRE: We are standing here because of him. Jon Snow is alive because the Lord willed it.
DAVOS: I loved that girl like she was my own. She was good. She was kind. And you killed her!
MELISANDRE: So did her father. So did her mother. Her own blood knew it was the only way.
DAVOS: The only way for what? They all died anyway. You told everyone Stannis was the one. You had him believing it, all of them fooled. And you lied.
MELISANDRE: I didn’t lie. I was wrong.
DAVOS: Aye, you were wrong. How many died because you were wrong?

DAVOS: I ask your leave to execute this woman for murder. She admits to the crime.
JON: Do you have anything to say for yourself?
MELISANDRE: I’ve been ready to die for many years. If the Lord was done with me, so be it, but he’s not. You’ve seen the Night King, Jon Snow. You know the great war is still to come. You know the army of the dead will be upon us soon. And you know I can help you win that war.
JON: Ride south today. If you return to the North, I’ll have you hanged as a murderer.
DAVOS: If you ever come back this way, I will execute you myself.

Game of Thrones: The night before the battle

Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 09 Battle of the Bastards

After Jon discusses the battle plan with Tormund and Davos, Sansa criticises Jon for attacking without gathering more men and warns him that Ramsay will be able to counter their battle plans. Jon insists that this is the largest army they could possibly gather.

SANSA: If you had asked for my advice earlier, I would have told you not to attack Winterfell until we had a larger force, or is that obvious, too?
JON: When will we have a larger force?! We’ve pleaded with every house that’ll have us. The Blackfish can’t help us. We’re lucky to have this many men.
SANSA: It’s not enough!
JON: No, it’s not enough. It’s what we have! Battles have been won against greater odds.
SANSA: If Ramsay wins, I’m not going back there alive. Do you understand me?
JON: I won’t let ever let him touch you again. I’ll protect you, I promise.
SANSA: No one can protect me. No one can protect anyone.

Later, Jon meets with Melisandre and asks her not to bring him back if he should die in battle. Melisandre replies that it is not her gift that has brought Jon back but the Lord of Light’s.

JON: My lady. You weren’t at the war council.
MELISANDRE: I’m not a soldier.
JON: Any advice?
MELISANDRE: Don’t lose.
JON: If I do, if I fall… don’t bring me back.
MELISANDRE: I’ll have to try.
JON: I’m ordering you not to bring me back.
MELISANDRE: I am not your servant, Jon Snow.
JON: You’re in my camp. I’m the commander.
MELISANDRE: I serve the Lord of Light. I do what he commands.
JON: How do you know what he commands?
MELISANDRE: I interpret his signs… as well as I can. If the Lord didn’t want me to bring you back, how did I bring you back? I have no power. Only what he gives me and he gave me you.
JON: Why?
MELISANDRE: I don’t know. Maybe you’re only needed for this small part of his plan and nothing else. Maybe he brought you here to die again.
JON: What kind of god would do something like that?
MELISANDRE: The one we’ve got.

Davos and Tormund discuss their time serving Stannis and Mance respectively, with both acknowledging that they may have been serving the wrong king for so long. Davos walks on and comes across the pyre where Shireen was burned, also finding the wooden stag he had given her before she died.

At Castle Black, Brienne confronts Davos and Melisandre, and informs them that she killed Stannis after he admitted to using dark magic to assassinate Renly. She warns Davos and Melisandre that even though that was in the past, she does not forget or forgive.

SER DAVOS: My lady.
MELISANDRE: Ser Davos.
SER DAVOS: Will you stay here at Castle Black?
MELISANDRE: I will do as Jon Snow commands.
SER DAVOS: You serve Jon Snow now?
MELISANDRE: He’s the prince that was promised.
SER DAVOS: Forgive me, my lady, I thought that was Stannis.

SER DAVOS: What happened down there?
MELISANDRE: There was a battle. Stannis was defeated.
SER DAVOS: And Shireen? What happened to the princess?
BRIENNE: I saw what happened. I saw Stannis’ forces defeated in the field.
SER DAVOS: My lady, I’m Ser Davos Seaworth.
BRIENNE: We’ve met before. I was Kingsguard to Renly Baratheon. Before Renly was assassinated with bloodmagic.
SER DAVOS: That’s in the past now.
BRIENNE: Yes, it’s in the past. It doesn’t mean I forget. Or forgive. He admitted it, you know.
SER DAVOS: Who did?
BRIENNE: Stannis. Just before I executed him.

Game of Thrones: Jon Snow Awakens

Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 03 Oathbreaker

After awakening, Jon Snow is greeted by Ser Davos and Melisandre. Melisandre tells Jon that her religion prophesies a “prince that was promised” and suggests that this prince may not be Stannis, as she first thought, but Jon.

DAVOS: What do you remember?
JON: They stabbed me. Olly… he put a knife in my heart. I shouldn’t be here.
DAVOS: The lady brought you back.
MELISANDRE: Afterwards, after they stabbed you, after you died, where did you go? What did you see?
JON: Nothing. There was nothing at all.
MELISANDRE: The Lord let you come back for a reason. Stannis was not the prince who was promised, but someone has to be.
