Game of Thrones: Davos and Melisandre

Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 02 Home

Ser Davos pleads with Melisandre to attempt to resurrect Jon Snow, reminding her of her previous miracles, swallowing poison and birthing a demon.

MELISANDRE: I met a man who came back from the dead, but the priest who did it– it shouldn’t have been possible.
SER DAVOS: But it was. It could be now.
MELISANDRE: Not for me.
SER DAVOS: Not for you? I saw you drink poison that should have killed you. I saw you give birth to a demon made of shadows.
MELISANDRE: Everything I believed, the great victory I saw in the flames, all of it was a lie. You were right all along. The Lord never spoke to me.
SER DAVOS: Fuck him, then. Fuck all of them. I’m not a devout man, obviously. Seven gods, drowned gods, tree gods, it’s all the same. I’m not asking the Lord of Light for help. I’m asking the woman who showed me that miracles exist.
MELISANDRE: I never had this gift.
SER DAVOS: Have you ever tried?

Game of Thrones: Tyrion and the Dragons Part 2

Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 02 Home

Tyrion heads to the dungeons to free the two Daenerys dragons still kept in captivity. While wary at first, the dragons do not attack Tyrion and allow him to undo their shackles before retreating deeper into the dungeon.

TYRION: When I was a child, an uncle asked what gift I wanted for my name day. I begged him for one of you. “It wouldn’t even have to be a big dragon,” I told him. “It could be little like me.” Everyone laughed like it was the funniest thing they had ever heard. Then my father told me the last dragon had died a century ago. I cried myself to sleep that night. But here you are.

Game of Thrones: Tyrion and Varys

Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 02 Home

With little good news in Meereen, as Daenerys is still missing and following the most recent attack by the Sons of the Harpy in the harbour, Tyrion converses with Varys, Missandei, and Grey Worm. Tyrion learns that Astapor and Yunkai have been retaken by the Masters, leaving Meereen as the only free city in Slaver’s Bay.

TYRION: If I lost my cock, I’d drink all the time. Meaning no offense. He makes dwarf jokes, I make eunuch jokes.
VARYS: I do not make dwarf jokes.
TYRION: You think them.

Game of Thrones: On the Iron Islands

Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 02 Home

Balon Greyjoy speaks to Yara about their war against the North. Yara points out that the armies of the North have retaken all of the Ironborn strongholds on the mainland, and pleads with him to end the war. However, Balon refuses and promises to send more troops to stage another invasion of the North. As Balon heads outside, he encounters his brother, Euron Greyjoy, who has come to overthrow him. Balon attempts to stab Euron, who throws him off a bridge to his death. At Balon’s funeral, Yara swears revenge against Balon’s killer, but is reminded by her uncle Aeron, a Drowned Priest, that her position as successor depends on the results of the Kingsmoot.

YARA: We can defeat anyone at sea, but we’ll never hold lands and castles against mainland armies.
BALON: Not if our captains defy my orders, abandon their posts, and sacrifice our men on foolish missions.
YARA: I won’t apologize for trying to rescue Theon.
BALON: Then where is he?
YARA: Where is your kingdom? We took those castles because the northerners marched off to war. That war is over. The last time we provoked them too far, I watched from that window as they breached our walls and knocked down our towers. I lost two brothers that day.
BALON: And I lost three sons. The War of the Five Kings, they call it. Well, the other four are dead. When you rule the Iron Islands, you can wage all the peace you want. But for now, shut your mouth and obey or I will make another heir who will.

BALON: Let me pass. You fool, move aside for your king.
EURON: Haven’t I always, brother?
BALON: I thought you’d be rotting under some foreign sea by now.
EURON: What is dead may never die. Has the custom changed since I’ve been gone? Aren’t you supposed to repeat the words?
BALON: You can mock our god without my help.
EURON: I don’t mock the Drowned God. I am the Drowned God. From Oldtown to Qarth, when men see my sails, they pray. You’re old, brother. You’ve had your time. Now let another rule.
BALON: I heard you lost your mind during a storm on the Jade Sea. They tied you to the mast to keep you from jumping overboard.
EURON: They did.
BALON: And when the storm passed, you cut out their tongues.
EURON: I needed silence.
BALON: What kind of an ironborn loses his senses during a storm?
EURON: I am the storm, brother. The first storm and the last. And you’re in my way.

Game of Thrones: Sansa and Theon

Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 02 Home

After reuniting with Brienne and Podrick, Sansa learns that Arya is alive, but that she hasn’t been seen since her disappearance in the Riverlands. Theon then tells Sansa that he cannot accompany her to Castle Black, as he does not deserve her or Jon’s forgiveness. Confident that Brienne and Podrick can better protect Sansa, Theon states that he plans to return “home,” presumably to the Iron Islands.

SANSA: I should have gone with you while I had the chance.
BRIENNE: It was a difficult choice, my lady. We’ve all had to make difficult choices.

SANSA: We just have to make it to Castle Black. Once we’re with Jon, Ramsay won’t be able to touch us.
THEON: Jon will have me killed the moment I step through the gate.
SANSA: I won’t let him. I’ll tell him the truth about Bran and Rickon.
THEON: And the truth about the farm boys I killed in their place. And the truth about Ser Rodrik, who I beheaded. And the truth about Robb, who I betrayed.
SANSA: When you take the black, all your crimes are forgiven.
THEON: I don’t want to be forgiven. I can never make amends to your family for the things I’ve done. They’ll keep you safer than I ever could.
SANSA: You’re not coming with us?
THEON: I would have taken you all the way to the Wall. I would have died to get you there. May I take one of the horses?
SANSA: Where will you go?
THEON: Home.

Game of Thrones: Ramsay Bolton

Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 02 Home

Unaware that Jon Snow is dead, Ramsay deduces that Sansa would have gone to Castle Black to join her brother, the Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch. Ramsay proposes to his father Roose that they storm castle Black and kill Jon Snow. Maester Wolkan then enters and announces that Walda has given birth to a son, prompting Ramsay to stab Roose, killing him.  He then lures Walda and his baby brother into the kennels, where he has them mauled to death by his hounds, thereby securing his position as lord of House Bolton and Winterfell.

ROOSE: Jon Snow is a bastard, not a Stark.
RAMSAY: So was I, Father. Your hold on the North will never be secure as long as a Stark can walk through that door. Castle Black isn’t defended on the southern side. And the few men left are barely men at all. Farm boys and thieves. With a small force, we could storm the castle, kill Jon Snow–-
ROOSE: Murder the Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch? You’d unite every house in the North against us.

Game of Thrones: The Wildlings

Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 02 Home

Ser Davos and the Night’s Watch loyalists prepare themselves for battle when Alliser and his allies begin to break down the door. As they are about to break through, the outer walls of the Castle are breached by the giant Wun Wun, followed byTormund and an army of Wildlings, who have returned with Edd. Outnumbered, Alliser and the mutineers are forced to surrender, Edd proclaiming that Thorne and his men are the real traitors, and then proceed to incarcerate Thorne, Olly, and the rest of the mutineers.

SER ALLISER: It’s time, Ser Davos. Open the door and the men inside can rejoin their brothers in peace. We’ll even set the wolf free north of the Wall where it belongs. Nobody needs to die tonight.
SER DAVOS: I’ve never been much of a fighter. Apologies for what you’re about to see.

SER ALLISER: For thousands of years the Night’s Watch has held Castle Black against the wildlings.
TORMUND: Until you.
EDD: Throw them into the cells where they belong.
