Game of Thrones: Jaime takes Riverrun

Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 08 No One

Edmure orders his men to surrender Riverrun, and also orders the Blackfish’s capture. The Blackfish helps Brienne and Podrick escape, but stays behind to fight to the last. Jaime is informed about the death of the Blackfish, and sees Brienne and Pod escaping on the river. Both Jaime and Brienne mournfully wave each other farewell.

BLACKFISH: Go on.
BRIENNE: Come with us.
BLACKFISH: I’ve run before from the Red Wedding. I’m not running again. This is my family home.
BRIENNE: Your family is in the North. Come with us. Don’t die for pride when you can fight for your blood.
BLACKFISH: You’ll serve Sansa far better than I ever could.
GUARD: All the way down!
GUARD: Check that out!
BLACKFISH: Go on, now. I haven’t had a proper sword fight in years. I expect I’ll make a damn fool of myself.

Game of Thrones: Edmure is allowed to enter Riverrun

Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 08 No One

Jaime talks with Edmure, trying to win his cooperation by tempting him with seeing his newborn son; who he has never seen; and offering to send him and his family to Casterly Rock, away from the Freys. Jaime then says he wants to take Riverrun to be back with Cersei, and he is willing to do anything to achieve it, even if it means killing every Tully he finds, including Edmure and his son. Jaime then sends Edmure to parley with the Blackfish. Despite the Blackfish’s protests, the Tully soldiers allow Edmure entry into the castle.

EDMURE: You didn’t come here to talk about our sisters.
JAIME: That’s exactly why I came here. I love Cersei. You can laugh at that if you want. You can sneer. Doesn’t matter. She needs me. And to get back to her, I have to take Riverrun. I’ll send for your baby boy. And I’ll launch him into Riverrun with a catapult. Because you don’t matter to me, Lord Edmure. Your son doesn’t matter to me. The people in the castle don’t matter to me. Only Cersei. And if I have to slaughter every Tully who ever lived to get back to her, that’s what I’ll do.

GUARD: Who goes there?
EDMURE: Edmure Tully, son of Hoster Tully and the rightful Lord of Riverrun. I demand entry.
BLACKFISH: Don’t let him in.
GUARD: He’s the Lord of Riverrun. I have to obey his commands.
BLACKFISH: He’s been their captive ever since they murdered his king at the Red Wedding. Why do you think the people who murdered his king at the Red Wedding would decide to let him come home? Because it’s a trap, you idiot. Don’t let him in.
GUARD: He’s my lord, my lord. I’ve sworn to serve the Lord of Riverrun and obey his commands.
BLACKFISH: You’re not obeying Edmure’s commands. You’re obeying the fucking Kingslayer’s commands.
EDMURE: I demand entry.
GUARD: My lord has given an order.
BLACKFISH: With a knife to his throat. That is not a valid order.
GUARD: Lower the drawbridge and open the gate for Lord Ed–
GUARD: Aye, ser.
BLACKFISH: I’ll have your head before I surrender Riverrun.
GUARD: You are not lord of this castle, my lord. Lower the drawbridge.
GUARD: Aye, ser!

Game of Thrones: Brienne and Jaime Part 2

Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 08 No One

Brienne remembers Jaime that, in case of her fail to convince Blackfish to surrender, the honor will force her to fight him for Sansa’s kin. Jaime then says he hopes that doesn’t happen.

BRIENNE: One last thing, Ser Jaime.
JAIME: Yes, Lady Brienne?
BRIENNE: Should I fail to persuade the Blackfish to surrender and if you attack the castle, honor compels me to fight for Sansa’s kin.
JAIME: Of course it does.
BRIENNE: To fight you.
JAIME: Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.

Game of Thrones: Brienne and Jaime Part 1

Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 08 No One

Brienne explains to Jaime that she has come to recruit the Blackfish and the Tully army for Sansa, but Jaime points out that he is currently besieged in Riverrun and refuses to surrender the castle. Brienne proposes that if she can convince the Blackfish to surrender the castle, then Jaime will allow him and the Tully army safe passage to the North. Jaime agrees to the plan, but gives Brienne until nightfall. She then returns Oathkeeper to Jaime, stating that she has completed her mission. Jaime, however, tells her that she can keep it, as Oathkeeper is hers and hers alone.

JAIME: What the hell are you doing here?
BRIENNE: I’ve come for the Blackfish.
JAIME: You’re welcome to have him.
BRIENNE: Lady Sansa desires to take her ancestral seat back from the Boltons and assume her rightful position as Lady of Winterfell.
JAIME: With what army does she plan on taking Winterfell?
BRIENNE: The Tully army.
JAIME: They’re a bit occupied at the moment.
BRIENNE: I was sent here to reclaim Riverrun currently defended by the Tully rebels, so you can see the conundrum.
BRIENNE: The Tullys are rebels because they’re fighting for their home?
JAIME: Riverrun was granted to the Freys by royal decree.
BRIENNE: As a reward for betraying Robb Stark and slaughtering his family.
JAIME: Exactly. We shouldn’t argue about politics.
BRIENNE: You’re a knight, Ser Jaime. I know there is honor in you. I’ve seen it myself.
JAIME: I’m a Lannister. Don’t ask me to betray my own house.
BRIENNE: I do no such thing. Take Riverrun without bloodshed. Ride south again with your mission complete and your army intact.
JAIME: What do you propose?
BRIENNE: Allow me to enter Riverrun under a flag of truce. Let me try to persuade the Blackfish to give up the castle.
JAIME: Why would he abandon his ancestral home?
BRIENNE: Because you’ll allow him to lead the Tully forces safely north.
JAIME: Have you ever met the Blackfish?
BRIENNE: No.
JAIME: He’s even more stubborn than you are. All right. Try to talk some sense into the old goat. He won’t listen, but his men might. Not everybody wants to die for someone else’s home.
BRIENNE: I need your word. If I persuade him to abandon the castle, you’ll grant a safe passage north.
JAIME: You have my word. You have until nightfall.

Game of Thrones: Jaime and the Blackfish

Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 07 The Broken Man

Jaime attempts to parley with the Blackfish, warning him that the Lannisters will show no mercy to the Tullys if they do not surrender the castle. The Blackfish is not intimidated by Jaime’s threats and dares him to try and seize the castle, as they still have two years worth of provisions stockpiled.

BLACKFISH: I assume you’re here to fulfill the vow you gave my niece. I don’t see Sansa and Arya.
JAIME: I don’t have them.
BLACKFISH: Pity. Do you wish to resume your captivity? Then why are you here?
JAIME: You know why I’m here. This castle belongs to House Frey. You’re trespassing. In the name of King Tommen, I order you to surrender or–
BLACKFISH: Or you’ll kill Edmure? My nephew’s marked for death no matter what. Hang him and be done with it.
JAIME: It won’t stop with Edmure. You’ll force me to storm the castle. Hundreds will die.
BLACKFISH: Hundreds of mine. Thousands of yours. If you can breach the walls.
JAIME: We’ll breach them and kill every last one of you. But if you surrender, I’ll spare the lives of your men. On my honor.
BLACKFISH: Your honor? Bargaining with oathbreakers is like building on quicksand.
JAIME: The war is over, ser. Why sacrifice living men to a lost cause?
BLACKFISH: As long as I’m standing, the war is not over. This is my home. I was born in this castle and I’m ready to die in it. So you can either attack or try to starve us out. We have enough provisions for two years. Do you have two years, Kingslayer?
JAIME: You clearly have no intention of saving your men’s lives. Why did you come treat with me?
BLACKFISH: Sieges are dull. And I wanted to see you in person, get the measure of you.
JAIME: Well, now you have.
BLACKFISH: Aye, now I have. I’m disappointed.

Game of Thrones: Jaime takes charge of the siege

Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 07 The Broken Man

Disgusted with the Freys’ incompetence, Jaime takes charge of the siege, orders Edmure to be bathed and fed, and says Bronn he wants a parley with the Blackfish.

JAIME: Have Lord Edmure bathed and fed.
WALDER RIVERS: Whoa, whoa.
LOTHAR FREY: Walder.
WALDER RIVERS: Edmure is a prisoner of House Frey.
JAIME: Only a fool makes threats he’s not prepared to carry out. Now let’s say I threatened to hit you unless you shut your mouth, but you kept talking. What do you think I’d do?
WALDER RIVERS: I don’t give a rat’s–
JAIME: I’m here by the king’s command to take back this castle. Have him bathed and fed. Unless you’d like to take his place.
LOTHAR FREY: Apologies, Ser Jaime. Do as he says.
JAIME: The siege is now under my command. The next time the Blackfish looks out from those ramparts, he’ll see an army at his gates, not whatever this is.

Game of Thrones: Jaime and Bronn

Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 07 The Broken Man

Jaime and Bronn lead the Lannister army to Riverrun to try take back the castle from Ser BRYNDEN “the Blackfish” TULLY.

BRONN: Now, that is a sorry attempt at a siege. Someone needs to teach those sad twats how to dig trenches.
JAIME: Someone certainly does.
BRONN: Oh, no. Not me. I’m just an upjumped sellsword.
JAIME: You’re an anointed knight. There’s quite a difference.
BRONN: Aye, knights don’t get paid.
JAIME: You have better instincts than any officer in the Lannister army.
BRONN: That’s like saying I have a bigger cock than anyone in the Unsullied army.
JAIME: I expect to command all the Lannister forces before long. You can be the right hand I lost.
BRONN: You promised me a lordship and a castle and a highborn beauty for a wife.
JAIME: And you’ll get all three. A Lannister always–
BRONN: Don’t say it. Don’t fucking say it.

Game of Thrones: Jaime and Cersei

Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 06 Blood of My Blood

While speaking with Cersei, Jaime reveals that he has been given orders to oust the Blackfish from Riverrun, but that he would rather massacre the Faith Militant to release Tommen from his influence. Cersei warns him that, if he does so, he will be killed, thus defeating the purpose of liberating Tommen. She counsels him to instead lead the Lannister army on Riverrun, as a show of force to their enemies. About her upcoming trial, Cersei expresses no concern, saying it will be a trial by combat and with “the Mountain” as her champion, she has no fear of a guilty verdict.

JAIME: I’m not going to the Riverlands.
CERSEI: What, then?
JAIME: I’m going to give Bronn the largest bag of gold anyone’s ever seen and have him gather the best killers he knows. I’ll take them to the sept and I’ll remove the High Sparrow’s head and every other sparrow head I can find.
CERSEI: You can’t.
JAIME: He has our son! He stole our son! He’s torn our family apart. How should we treat people who tear us apart?
CERSEI: We should treat them without mercy and we will. But if you kill the High Sparrow, you won’t leave the sept alive. And without you, this is all for nothing. Stand at the head of our army where you belong, where Father wanted you. Show our men where their loyalties belong. Show them what Lannisters are, what we do to our enemies. And take that stupid little castle back because it’s ours and because you can.
JAIME: You’ll stand trial soon. I need to be here for you.
CERSEI: It will be a trial by combat. I have the Mountain. They’ve made us both stronger, all of them. They have no idea how strong we are. No idea what we’re going to do to them. We’ve always been together. We’ll always be together. We’re the only two people in the world.
