Game of Thrones: Olenna meets Ellaria

Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 10 The Winds of Winter

In Dorne, Olenna, in mourning for the death of her family, meets with Ellaria and the Sand Snakes concerning their mutual grievances against the Lannisters and discuss the possibility of an alliance, which Ellaria believes will offer Olenna a chance of survival. Olenna bitterly rebuffs the idea; her son and grandchildren are all dead and her house left without a future, so it is not survival she wants. Ellaria rephrases, offering Olenna her “heart’s desire”: vengeance and justice for her house. At this, Varys enters, greeting them with “Fire and Blood”, the words of House Targaryen.

OLENNA: The last time a Tyrell came to Dorne, he was assassinated. 100 red scorpions, was it?
ELLARIA: You have nothing to fear from us, Lady Olenna.
OLENNA: You murder your own prince, but you expect me to trust you?
OBARA: We invited you to Dorne because we needed your help. You came to Dorne because you needed our help.
OLENNA: What is your name again? Barbaro?
OBARA: Obara.
OLENNA: Obara. You look like an angry little boy. Don’t presume to tell me what I need.
NYMERIA: Forgive my sister. What she lacks in diplomacy, she makes–
OLENNA: Do shut up, dear. Anything from you? No? Good. Let the grown women speak.
ELLARIA: The Lannisters have declared war on House Tyrell. They have declared war on Dorne. We must be allies now if we wish to survive.
OLENNA: Cersei stole the future from me. She killed my son. She killed my grandson. She killed my granddaughter. Survival is not what I’m after now.
ELLARIA: You’re absolutely right. I chose the wrong words. It is not survival I offer. It is your heart’s desire.
OLENNA: And what is my heart’s desire?
ELLARIA: Vengeance. Justice.
VARYS: Fire and blood.

Game of Thrones: Cersei and Olenna

Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 07 The Broken Man

In King’s Landing, Cersei confronts Olenna, and tries to convince her to stay and fight the Sparrows. Olenna points out that they have already lost and blames the Sparrows’ rise to power on Cersei’s lack of foresight. Despite having no allies in King’s Landing, Cersei decides to stay and fight.

CERSEI: I heard you were leaving King’s Landing.
OLENNA: That is hardly your concern.
CERSEI: Your grandson is still a prisoner. You’ll leave him rotting in a cell?
OLENNA: Loras rots in a cell because of you. The High Sparrow rules this city because of you. Our two ancient houses face collapse because of you and your stupidity.
CERSEI: You’re right. I made a terrible mistake. I carry it with me every single day.
OLENNA: Good.
CERSEI: I delivered an army of fanatics onto our doorstep. And now we must fight them together. We need each other.
OLENNA: I wonder if you’re the worst person I’ve ever met. At a certain age, it’s hard to recall. But the truly vile do stand out through the years. Do you remember the way you smirked at me when my grandson and granddaughter were dragged off to their cells? I do. I’ll never forget it.
CERSEI: You love your granddaughter. I love my son. It’s the only truth I know. We must defend them.
OLENNA: I’m leaving this wretched city as fast as I can before that shoeless zealot throws me into one of his cells. If you’re half as bright as you think you are, you’ll find a way out of here, too.
CERSEI: Never. I’ll never leave my son.
OLENNA: What’ll you do, then? You have no support. Not anymore. Your brother’s gone. The High Sparrow saw to that. The rest of your family have abandoned you. The people despise you. You’re surrounded by enemies, thousands of them. You’re going to kill them all by yourself? You’ve lost, Cersei. It’s the only joy I can find in all this misery.

Game of Thrones: Margaery and Olenna Part 1

Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 07 The Broken Man

The High Sparrow chides Queen Margaery that she needs to provide King Tommen with an heir, and that she should try to convert her grandmother Olenna to the Faith, subtly remarking that Olenna’s safety cannot be guaranteed otherwise. Margaery meets with her grandmother Olenna, who attempts to convince her to leave King’s Landing and return to Highgarden. Margaery refuses, stating that as Queen, her place is supposed to be at King Tommen’s side. Seeing that she cannot change Margaery’s mind, Olenna reluctantly agrees.

OLENNA: You will leave for Highgarden today. There is no law that says you must stay here.
MARGAERY: I am the queen. It is my duty to serve my husband the king. But you should leave, Grandmother. Your place is at home.
OLENNA: I will never leave you. Never.
MARGAERY: You must.

TOMMEN: When you attack the Faith, you attack the Crown. Anyone who attacks the Crown is unfit to serve as Lord Commander of the Kingsguard.
JAIME: I’ve been a member of the Kingsguard since before you were born. You don’t have to do this. You don’t have to do anything.
TOMMEN: I have to answer to the gods.
JAIME: Not when you’re sitting in that chair.
TOMMEN: The Crown’s decision on this matter is final.
JAIME: Will I be walking naked in the streets? Or will I spend a few months in the sept dungeons first to teach me about the gods’ mercy?
TOMMEN: You have served your house and your king faithfully for many years. And you will continue to do so. But not in this city.
